Mamás Latinas Awards





The object of the MamásLatinas Awards (the "Awards") is to identify, recognize and reward those who embody the hard work and commitment of Latina moms across the country, who have gone above and beyond to advance their lives, the lives of their children and families, schools, neighborhoods, or their communities. is looking to honor those who have achieved results and who have the capacity, ability and desire to continue their wonderful efforts. The Awards are governed by these rules, requirements, terms and conditions (these "Official Rules").

These Official Rules are provided in English and in Spanish. Any conflict between these two versions, the English version shall govern.


The Awards are open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico who (i) are moms (or mom equivalent, e.g., step moms) who embody the spirit of Latina moms and, (ii) are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry, and (iii) have a valid e-mail address as of June 4, 2012. Employees, officers and directors (including immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and members of the same household, whether or not related) of Sponsor and its or any organization responsible for fulfilling, advertising or promoting these Awards are not eligible to participate or win an Award (as defined below). The Awards are subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations. Void where prohibited or restricted by law, rule or regulation.


The Application Process (as defined below) begins on June 4, 2012 at 7:00 AM Eastern Time ("ET") and ends on July13th, 2012 at 11:59 PM ET (the "Application Period"). The Finalists (as defined below) shall be selected on or about July 30, 2012 and the Finalist Process (as defined below) for the Finalists begins on July 30, 2012 at 9:00:01 AM ET and ends on August 24, 2012 at 11:59 PM ET (the "Interview Period").


Application Process: To apply for an Award, go to Mamá during the Application Period and click "Apply Here". Then (i) read and consent to these Official Rules, (ii) enter your Personal Information (as defined below), (iii) select the Category (as defined below) that best describes your story, (iv) answer the Essay Questions (as defined below) about yourself, (v) provide the names, phone numbers and email addresses of two (2) references, and (vi) confirm that the information that you have provided is true and correct. Upon completion of the Application Process you are deemed an "Applicant."

"Personal Information" means name, valid address, city, state, ZIP/postal code, valid telephone number, valid e-mail address, and date of birth.

Applications may be completed in English or Spanish. Each Applicant must apply herself. Submissions that do not comply with these Official Rules will be void, eliminated and not eligible for consideration. Online entry only. No other method of entry will be accepted. Applicants are solely responsible for Internet connectivity, software and/or hardware that may be required in order to create and/or submit any Submission.

Finalist Process: Finalists (as defined below) shall be interviewed during a pre-scheduled appointment.

Submission Requirements:

Per the Application Process described above, each Applicant will need to select a category that best describes the Applicant's story from one of the following:

  1. Making our communities a better place to live
  2. Creating new businesses, jobs, and/or helping to lead corporate efforts
  3. Providing the next generation of Hispanic kids with greater opportunity

Overcoming adversity and/or undergoing a personal transformation to make life better for yourself and/or your family Per the Application Process described above, each Applicant must also answer the following Essay Questions:

  1. Tell us about yourself - who you are, your family, what drives you.
  2. Describe your work and accomplishments as they relate to the category you are applying for.
  3. What are your plans over the next year - and how could the Mamas Latinas Award help you make an even greater contribution.

Additional questions may be included, such as "where did you hear about the MamásLatinas Awards?" The Personal Information, the category and the answers to the Essay Questions shall be the "Submission." As conditions of entry into Application Process of the Awards, each Applicant represents and warrants that the facts contained in her Submission are true and accurate.

Finalist Process Submission Requirements: Each Finalist (as defined below) shall answer interview questions regarding the Submission by or about them during one or more set interview time(s) and shall be required to submit a recent photo of herself. The interview questions shall be designed to learn more about the Applicant and her story and accomplishments. During the Finalist Process, the Finalists' references will be interviewed as well for Sponsor to learn more about the Finalist and her story.


The Judges will judge all eligible Submissions on the following criteria, each with equal weight ("Judging Criteria"): (i) measurable results in the category applied for; (ii) capacity, ability, and desire to continue making such an important contribution in her life and in her work; (iii) embodiment of the spirit of MamásLatinas and ability to inspire Latina moms.

The twenty-five (25) eligible Applicants with the highest scores based on the Judging Criteria above will be selected as eligible finalists; provided, that each such eligible finalist must (i) fully comply with and satisfy all requirements set forth in these Official Rules; and (ii) be willing to agree in writing to the rules and requirements for participation in Finalist Process. Each eligible finalist that meets the foregoing criteria shall be a "Finalist." In the event that any eligible finalist does not, or is not able to, agree to the rules and requirements for participation in Finalist Process, she will be disqualified, and Sponsor, may in its sole discretion select the next highest-scoring eligible Applicant to be an eligible finalist.

The seven (7) Finalists with the highest scores based on the Judging Criteria from the Finalist Process will be selected as eligible winners; provided, that each such eligible winners must (i) fully comply with and satisfy all requirements set forth in these Official Rules; and (ii) execute all necessary forms and agreements as a Winner. Each eligible winner that meets the foregoing criteria shall be a "Winner." In the event any such eligible Finalist does not, or is not able to, agree to the rules and requirements as a Winner, she will be disqualified from the Finalist Process, and Sponsor, may in its sole discretion select the next highest-scoring eligible Finalist to be a Winner.


Each Winner shall receive an award in the amount of $5,000, and she and one guest shall be brought to New York, NY on or about September 20, 2012 to receive her award. Travel costs for each Winner and her guest to and from New York, NY (which travel shall be arranged by Sponsor) shall include, (i) depending on travel distance, air (on coach), bus or train, (ii) car service or taxi service to and from the airport, train or bus station, (iii) a hotel room for two nights, (vi) a "makeover" (i.e., one or more salon services) for the Winner and one guest, not to exceed $150 per person, and (v) a $100 stipend per day for expenses while in New York. Winners may also be included in one or more videos on the website and related video partner sites.


Exact Award details shall be determined in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor. Each Award is non-transferable and non-assignable, with no cash redemptions (for non-cash portions of the Award). Each Winner is fully responsible for any and all applicable federal, state, provincial and local taxes (including income and withholding taxes). All costs and expenses associated with Award acceptance and use not specified herein as being provided are the sole responsibility of each Winner. Limit one (1) Award per person, family or household.


Sponsor will be responsible for resolving any disputes and rules violations that arise in connection with the Awards. All decisions by Sponsor regarding the Awards shall be final and binding in all respects.


Applicants must not include any of the following content (the "Content Restrictions") in any Submission: (i) pornography, adult-oriented content or any other sexually-explicit material; (ii) materials relating to lotteries or gambling; (iii) explicit language of violence, or promotion of illegal activities; (iv) content in violation of intellectual property rights or laws; (v) libelous, defamatory, disparaging, tortuous or slanderous materials; (vi) content that denigrates, disparages or reflects negatively on Sponsor, its owners and employees, or any of its websites; (vii) material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual; or (viii) material that is unlawful, or otherwise in violation of or contrary to the laws or regulations in any state where the Submission is created. Any Submission that does not comply with the foregoing, in the sole discretion of Sponsor, will be disqualified and eliminated from consideration.


Each potential finalist and winner will be notified by e-mail and/or telephone by Sponsor and may (in Sponsor's discretion) be confirmed by postal mail, return receipt (the "Award Notification"). Eligible finalists will be notified on or about July 30, 2012. Eligible winners shall be notified on or about August 24, 2012. In the event that any potential finalist or winner does not respond to such Award Notification within three (3) days of the date of issuance, a disqualification and award forfeiture will result and, at Sponsor's sole discretion and time permitting, an alternate potential finalist or winner (as applicable) shall be chosen from among all remaining eligible Applicants. Each potential winner may be required to submit his/her valid social security number and/or other identification to Sponsor, authorize a full background check, and execute, have notarized and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release of Liability, and, unless prohibited by law, Publicity, within five (5) days of the date of receipt. A disqualification and award forfeiture will result and, at Sponsor's sole discretion and time permitting, an alternate potential winner will be selected from among all remaining eligible Finalists if all required documents are not properly executed and returned within the specified period of time and/or if the potential winner does not pass a background check to the satisfaction of Sponsor, in its sole discretion. Refusal or return of such documents as non-deliverable or any potential winner's noncompliance with these Official Rules will also result in disqualification, award forfeiture and, at Sponsor's sole discretion and time permitting, may cause an alternate potential winner to be chosen from among all remaining eligible entries.


Sponsor shall have the right, but not the obligation, to post each of the Submissions on the website or any other related site.

By participating in the Awards, each Applicant (a) accepts and agrees to be bound by these Official Rules, including all eligibility requirements, the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use; (b) gives her express permission to be contacted by Sponsor and/or its representatives for Awards administration purposes; and (c) gives her express permission for her Submission to be posted, along with her name and photo on the website and any other related site at any time during the Awards process or thereafter.

All applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply. These Awards and these Official Rules will be governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any court of competent jurisdiction sitting within the State of New York, New York County will be the exclusive jurisdiction and venue for any dispute arising out of or relating to these Awards or these Official Rules. Sponsor's failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.

Participation in the Awards and acceptance of an Award constitutes the each Finalist's and Winner's permission for Sponsor or any assignee or licensee of Sponsor to use her or his name, address (city and state), likeness, photograph, picture, portrait, voice, biographical information and/or any statements made by each Finalist or Winner regarding the Awards or Sponsor for advertising and promotional purposes without notice or additional compensation, except where prohibited by law. By participating, each Applicant, on her behalf, and on behalf of her respective heirs, executors, administrators, legal representatives, successors and assigns (i) represents that she meets all of the eligibility requirements for the Awards and (ii) agrees to release and hold harmless Sponsor, it advertising and promotion agencies and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, licensees, partners, licensees, representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees, officers and directors ("Released Parties"), from any and all liability, for loss, harm, damage, injury, lost profits, indirect or direct damages, consequential damages, incidental damages, punitive or exemplary damages, judgments, cost or expense whatsoever including without limitation, property damage, personal injury and/or death which may occur in connection with participation in any Awards related activity, or possession, acceptance and/or use or misuse of an Award including any activity and for any claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy and Award delivery or award. Sponsor is not responsible if any Award (or portion thereof) cannot be awarded due to delays or interruptions due to acts of God, acts of war, natural disasters, weather or acts of terrorism. Sponsor does not make, nor is Sponsor in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to any Award. If an Applicant does not comply with these Official Rules, or attempts to interfere with these Awards in any way, she will be disqualified.

Released Parties are not responsible for any technical, computer, network, typographical, printing, human or other errors relating to or in connection with these Awards, including, without limitation, errors or problems which may occur in connection with the offer or administration of these Awards, the processing of entries, the tabulation of scores, or any errors appearing in any Awards related-materials including, but not limited to, errors in advertising, the Official Rules, the selection and announcement of Award winners or the distribution of the Awards. Sponsor reserves the right to modify these Official Rules for clarification purposes without materially affecting the terms and conditions of the Awards.


If for any reason the Awards are not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, cancellation of games, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of these Awards, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Awards and, if terminated, to determine the winners, if any, from among all eligible, non-suspect Submissions submitted up to the point of termination.

Released Parties assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. The Released Parties are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network, cable, satellite, Internet Service Provider (ISP) or lines, computer systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to Applicant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in these Awards.


In the event that the Awards are challenged by any legal or regulatory authority, Sponsor reserves the right to discontinue or modify the Awards, or to disqualify Applicants residing in the affected geographic areas. In such event, the Released Parties shall have no liability to any Applicants who are disqualified due to such an action.
