Freeganism is the practice of reclaiming and eating food that has been discarded. Freegans and Freeganism are often seen as part of a wider "anti-consumerist" ideology, and freegans often employ a range of alternative living strategies based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources.
Freegans "embrace community, generosity, social concern, freedom, cooperation, and sharing in opposition to a society based on materialism, moral apathy, competition, conformity, and greed."[1]
The word "freegan" is a portmanteau of "free" and "vegan";[2] not all dumpster divers are vegan, but the ideology of veganism is inherent in freeganism. Freeganism started in the mid 1990s, out of the antiglobalization and environmentalist movements. The movement also has elements of Diggers, an anarchist street theater group based in Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco in the 1960s, that gave away rescued food.[2]
Yesterday I watch one of my favorite shows Bizarre Foods , the show was in San Francisco . Andrew followed this group of freegans I personally thinks this country put a lot in the garbage and is a lot of people here in this country need to eat .. I don't see nothing wrong on looking for good food in a dumpster if is good food why is in the garbage ?? why people who need to eat can have it ? I personally admire this group of people who goes to look for food and made great meals for the ones in need or just the wants want to eat.
I would like to hear your opinion ?

It's a shame so much food gets dumped....but if someone NEEDS the food I am glad they are getting it.
is sad very sad.. the other day I argue with this lady because she told is not poor people in USA .. I was like where do you live ? Beverly Hills because the town I live is so poor .. people is hungry here too ..
I don't know how it is where do you live but is a shame the gorceries store or restaurants have to put food in the garbage .. they shouls donate the food to soup kitchens or other places like that.
