Eyes Wide Open
When it comes to lining, there’s one simple rule: open your eyes. Regardless of your shape, the key is always to draw attention to the eye, making it appear bigger, brighter, and more noticeable without looking too heavy. Try these different looks to find the one that’s right for you.
Natural
After you’ve applied mascara, dab pencil gently and with short strokes behind and in between lashes. When applied correctly, eyeliner should be barely noticeable, but lashes should look plush and dense. Thickening the appearance of the lash line opens up the eye, making it look vibrant.
Smoky
For lighter eyes, a brown-black or charcoal liner is suggested. Make sure the pencil is soft to the touch. Apply with gentle pressure and begin lining as close to the lashes as possible. Draw out toward the end of the lashes and then draw in the opposite direction toward the tear duct. Use a small eye-shadow brush to smooth and soften the line for a highlighting effect that blends into skin.
Dramatic
This technique takes the Smoky look a step further. To achieve it, you’ll first create a Smoky look and then extend it by dabbing liner between the outer lower lashes and the corner of the eye. Darken the line by repeating the process, using upward strokes to pull color onto the lid. Blends wonderfully with shimmery shadows.
Cat Eyes
The best way to achieve cat eyes is with a liquid liner. Make sure the liner you are using is good quality and the tip of the brush is pliant but not too soft. With a steady hand and gentle pressure, apply line just above lashes from the inner eye all the way across. To thicken the line toward the outer part of the lid, repeat the stroke and gradually build it up. If your line becomes uneven or too thick, use a moist cotton swab to gently remove excess.
Remember, never line the lower inside lid of the eye with black liner. It can irritate eyes and cause infection as well as cause the eye to appear smaller.
