How can I cook healthier, but still keep the Latin flavor??

I have been tring to lose weight. So, I've been dieting, and working out.

For the most part I've just been trying to do is smaller portions, but I would really like to get my whole family eatting healthier. At the same time, I don't want to lose our favorite meals.

As you all know, Latin food is so fattening. Its fried, its cheesy, its its......OH SO GOOD!! Good or not it can also be bad for you.

So, how can I keep the flavor, but make it healthier??

What I do is instead of frying the food bake it. Yes, it won't taste the same but it is still very good. Cook with turkey instead of beef, trust me they won't know the difference. I take the skin off the chicken and bake it. Make sure to always have vegetables on the plate, and even a salad when you can.

I know what you mean.  We aren't overweight but I watch what me and my family eat.  Because of this we hardly ever have Mexican food.  My husband has the hardest time because he used to eat like 6 tortillas w/ everything.  So I cook good food and healthy, but he misses Mexican food.  I told him it's not worth the health risks.  He's not overweight but had high blood pressure, cholesterol and gall bladder problems.  You won't find tortillas here, except once in  a while.  Yes, the food is greta, but so bad for you.

I substitute where I can.  We don't really eat tortillas here, and bread is always wheat.  If we can, we exclude the cheese.  Sometimes, food is good without the cheese.

We do not eat ground beef, we use ground turkey instead for the tacos.  We use turkey patties for the burgers.

For example, calazita con pollo (chicken and squash) is done with the thighs, we use the breast.  and like th eother commenter said, we bake instead of frying.  I hardly ever fry anything.
